WHAT
IS ORBA?
We are continually being asked this question. What is
ORBA and what makes ORBA different from all of the other
organizations that are fighting for the rights of OHV
enthusiasts?
ORBA
is a non-profit Business Trade Association! ORBA does
not deal with end users. ORBA's members are business
owners or managers who have united toge-ther to promote
the welfare and profitability of companies who derive
a substantial part of their income from the off-road
recre-ation industry.
ORBA's
Board of Directors is elec-ted by ORBA members. Annual
meetings will enable members to elect Directors and
vote on major issues of concern to the asso-ciation
- just like any public corporation. That Board of Direc-tors
has the charter to make decisions regarding day-to-day
operations and expenditures based on what is best, and
most profitable, for the members. Although ORBA is incorporated
as a non-profit corporation, the profit motive dictates
its operation.
Today,
ORBA's primary effort aligns with the many volunteer
OHV organizations that are work-ing so hard to stop
the continual closures of OHV recreation areas by government
agencies. This makes it difficult for potential ORBA
members to decide where to commit limited resources.
Pro-fitability becomes a moot point if OHV recreation
becomes extinct. The current crisis situation de-mands
that OHV oriented busi-nesses continue to support OHV
volunteer organizations while, at the same time, team
up with the only OHV Business Trade Asso-ciation in
Existence!
Tomorrow, when the war against those who would eliminate
OHV recreation has been won, ORBA's focus will be to
speak for, and fight for, OHV businesses in the marketplace
and in the political arena. Profitability will take
the place of survival! ORBA will become the recognized
voice of the OHV Business Community!
ORBA @ KTM DEALER MEETING IN PA.
In August, Roy Denner, President and CEO of ORBA spoke
to over 200 KTM Motorcycle Dealers from across the United
States about membership in ORBA
As a result of that effort, ORBA now has members in
places such as Waukegan, IL; Baton Rouge, LA; Fayetteville,
AK; Terre Haute, IN; and Taylor Mill, KY. A big thanks
goes to KTM Sportmo-torcycles USA and particularly to
Scot Harden, KTM Vice President for helping ORBA become
a na-tional organization.
LOW
COST WORKMANS' COMP INSURANCE FOR ORBA MEMBERS
Now that ORBA is pushing the 100-member company mark,
we are in a position to negotiate cost savings opportunities
for our members. Our first effort in this area involves
low cost Workmans' Compensation Insurance. It is considerably
less expensive to acquire this type of insurance for
a group of companies than what individual companies
are required to pay. We have asked members to provide
copies of their declaration statements so ORBA can seek
bids for the best possible rates.
As
ORBA continues to grow as an established, recognized,
business trade association, we will be looking for other
opportunities to provide our members with val-uable
advantages that come along with organization size.
LEGAL
ACTIONS
Along with several well-known volunteer organizations
that are fighting for OHV recreation oppor-tunities,
ORBA is contributing substantial funds to support the
efforts of David Hubbard, expert environmental attorney
from the law firm of Procopio, Cory, Har-greaves and
Savitch.
Mr.
Hubbard is submitting legal position letters to the
Bureau of Land Management to prevent the implementation
of Federal Land Management Plans which would virtually
eliminate OHV recreation on BLM managed public lands.
His letters are reprinted on ORBA's informative website
at www.orbanet.org.
BLM
DESERT DISTRICT ADVISORY COUNCIL
ORBA President & CEO, Roy Denner, is a Recreation
Repre-sentative on the Bureau of Land Management's Desert
District Advisory Council. Mr. Denner, who was elected
Vice Chairperson by the other Council members, had an
opportunity in September to Chair a Council meeting
in Desert Hot Springs, California.
To
say that the meeting was lively would be a gross under-statement.
All of the items on the agenda involved potential negative
im-pacts on OHV recreation. According to Mr. Denner:
"The BLM appears totally committed to appeasing
the enviro-extremist groups and doesn't even respond
to the OHV community's input." Evidence supporting
this statement is available on ORBA's Website.
This is the reason that the OHV community has resorted
to legal maneuvering and is no longer willing to compromise
with the Federal Land Management Agen-cies on land use
issues!

IMPERIAL SAND DUNES "RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PLAN"
(RMP)
One of the Desert Management Plans being drafted by
the United States Bureau of Land Manage-ment has a new
name. The management plan has been in process for some
time and has always been called the "Recre-ation
Area Management Plan or (RAMP)." Recently, the
name of this so-called management plan has been changed
to "Resource Management Plan (RMP)."
At
a recent BLM "Scoping Meet-ing" in San Diego,
ORBA Pres-ident Roy Denner suggested to over 400 OHV
enthusiasts in attendance that there might be serious
significance to this name change.
Is
it possible that one of the most popular OHV playgrounds
in the universe will, in the future, be a biological
resource area with OHV recreation eliminated? ORBA will
keep on top of this issue. Stay tuned!
SAND SPORTS SUPER SHOW
In
September, ORBA members showed up in force as exhibitors
at the largest exhibit of sand oriented equipment in
the world. Millions, possibly billions, of dollars of
equipment used by sand dunes enthusiasts were on dis-play
while tens of thousands of sand sport enthusiasts crowded
four large buildings housing the displays.
Pete Conaty, Sacramento lobbyist, supported in part
by ORBA, was successful in getting several California
State Legislators to attend this show.
Without exception, these legis-lators were amazed by
the amount of dollars this industry contributes to the
California economy and by the number of families that
attend-ed this show.
The ORBA "Member" signs were evident on many
exhibitor booths. Several new off-road companies joined
ORBA's ranks at this show.
OFF-ROAD
EXPOSITION
In October, ORBA "Member" signs were displayed
all over the Off-Road Exposition in Pomona, California.
This exposition, staged at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds
involved companies who deal with off-road racing activities
from many western states. It was very difficult to find
an exhibitor at this event who did not know about "ORBA."
